Benefits Individuals with Diabetes - Hypoglycemia Living day to day with diabetes and fear of the effects of low blood sugar, particularly during sleeping hours, may now be a thing of the past for persons who rely on insulin to maintain control of blood glucose levels.

As the result of the development of a tiny portable monitoring device, approximately the size of a wrist watch, the symptoms of low blood glucose may now be detected early enough to issue a warning and allow one to take appropriate action and avert any serious consequences.

Similar technology was developed for astronauts traveling in space, who required body functions such as temperature and perspiration levels to be monitored automatically while they slept. If these functions varied from safe preset levels, an alarm would sound and awaken the astronauts who could then take the necessary action to correct the reason for the alarm.
